Rudy Giuliani Tries To Praise Mitt Romney But Ends Up Bragging About Himself

The former mayor of New York City appeared on CNN’s “State of the Union” Sunday morning, and he was asked to square his previous bashing of Mitt Romney — which hit a fever pitch during the 2008 campaign — with his current support. “Well, I mean, there’s a certain amount of personal ego in that. At that point I was probably comparing his record to my record,” Giuliani said.”That’s all part of campaigning.”

Then he preceded to praise Romney’s record, but only by pointing out that his own record was “far superior.” He explained:

Maybe it was circumstances or whatever, but I had massive reductions in unemployment. He had a reduction in unemployment of about 8, 10 – I think it was 15%. I had a reduction of unemployment of 50%. He had a growth of jobs of about 40,000. We had a growth of jobs of about 500,000… So I was comparing what I thought was my far superior record to his otherwise decent record, but numbers weren’t as great.”

Giuliani’s “far superior” record has been buttressed by a decade of lobbying. Most recently, he’s been working for anti-democratic Serbian nationalists.
